|I was born in Israel Zion Hospital on March 14, 1938. I believe attending doctor was Dr. Tatkow. I still reside in Bensonhurst as I have for almost 73 years and my husband and I have received treatment at the hospital various times over the years. My daughter, Debra Beth Slatcher-Heitlinger, was born in Maimonides Hospital on September 18, 1959. The required hospital stay at that time was ten days. The cost of the delivery was $150. Imagine that! Attending doctor was Dr. Bernard Brandner and he was also our family doctor. No specialists then because we probably couldn't afford one. My son, Lewis Howard Slatcher, was born there on January 26, 1961 and was also delivered by Dr. Brandner. Lewis will turn 50 in a few days. Hospital stay was reduced to a week and we held his bris in the hospital. My youngest son, David Michael Slatcher, was born there on August 26, 1965 delivered by same doctor. Don't remember exactly how long the hospital stay was at that time but we had his bris at home. My husband, Joel Slatcher (no, he wasn't born there) had a problem and was admitted to the ER on September 18, 2010. My daughter was with us (it actually was her birthday) and she remarked how the three of us had been there together 51 years before (under better circumstances I must say). He is doing better and he is still in treatment with doctors at Maimonides Medical Center. We would like to say thank you for your 100 years of serving the community.
