Who can join the program?
The program is for children who are overweight and have unhealthy eating and activity habits. We see children up to age 19. At the first appointment, we see if the program is right for your child.
How do I make an appointment?
Call (718) 283-8020, Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm, to make an appointment. If you reach the voice mail, please leave a message with your contact number. Someone will return your call.
How much does the program cost?
We accept most insurance plans. We also offer a sliding scale based on family income and the number of children in the house. We work with our families so that cost will not keep you from joining the program.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral for the program. Our coordinator will contact your insurance company for approval.
What happens in the sessions?
You and your family will learn how to make healthy food choices, control your portions and set goals. We will help you to stay motivated and feel better about yourselves.
Do you speak my language?
Interpreters are available for most languages.
I am not ready to join the program right now. Can I come in and speak to someone and then decide if I want to join?
Yes. During your first appointment, you will have a chance ask all of your questions. We will also tell you more about the program. At the end of the evaluation, it is up to you to decide whether the program is right for you and your family.
The Kids Weight Down Program offers weight loss services for child obesity. We offer these services as part of the Maimonides Infants & Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn. The Kids Weight Down Program works with overweight and obese children and teenagers, as well as their families, to help them learn healthy food and exercise habits. We guide groups and individuals with nutrition, exercise and counseling.
