Psychiatry

Maimonides Medical Center has developed an outstanding reputation for multidisciplinary psychiatric care and provides an extensive range of mental healthcare services. Under the leadership of Andrew Kolodny, MD, Chair of Psychiatry, the department offers comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic services to meet the mental health and developmental needs of children, adults and families in Brooklyn and beyond.

Rapid Access Clinic
(718) 283-8100

The Rapid Access Clinic provides adults in the community with an intake evaluation service. Patients and referring agencies can call for an appointment between 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday.

Adult Outpatient Service
(718) 283-7800

The Adult Outpatient Service provides mental health services to adults over the age of 18. Many of our clinicians are bilingual. Services provided include:

  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Medication Management
  • Group Therapy
  • Crisis Intervention

Child and Adolescent Outpatient Service
(718) 283-8128

The Child and Adolescent Outpatient Service provides mental health care to children and adolescents (up to the age of 18) and their families.  Our goal is to help children and adolescents function in the family, school and community at the highest possible level and to maximize each child’s potential.  Each summer we run the HUG respite program for our on-going outpatients. We also provide outreach services to schools in the community.

Wellness and Recovery Service
(718) 283-7830 for English
(718) 283-8078 for Spanish

The service is a dynamic, voluntary, group therapy-focused program providing treatment for patients diagnosed with acute or chronic mental illness. The multidisciplinary clinical team, consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, mental health workers and other support staff, assists patients in developing the social and emotional skills necessary to cope effectively in a community environment. The enhancement of patient strengths and functional self-awareness is emphasized in order to reduce relapse and the need for subsequent hospitalization.

In addition to traditional individual and group psychotherapy, and medication management, there are many specialized activity and therapy groups, including family therapy. Informal socialization opportunities are available during meals (breakfast and lunch are served to all patients) and at other times. Specific treatment programs are available for Russian and Spanish Speaking patients.

Consultation and Emergency Psychiatry Service
(718) 283-7841

The Consultation and Emergency Psychiatry Service provides psychiatric consultations for adult medical and surgical inpatients. Psychiatric assessments are also provided in the Emergency Department.
