Educating Doctors, Nurses, Patients & the Community
|
At Maimonides, Educating Doctors, Nurses, Staff, Patients
and Our Community is Central to Our Mission
Our definition of education encompasses more than advanced medical knowledge. We have leadership development programs for physicians and nurses so that they will have the management and communication skills necessary to lead in tomorrow’s health care world.
Maimonides Medical Center is one of the largest independent teaching hospitals in the united states. With 23 residency programs, Maimonides trains more than 400 medical students and residents every year—the largest physician training program in Brooklyn.
Inspiring Young People to Enter Health Care is Vitally Important
Maimonides collaborates with the New York City Board of Education, the Brooklyn Borough President’s office, local high schools and community organizations to provide vocational experience for students in a health care setting. We offer summer employment and mentoring as well as internship programs with local colleges.
Health Education Saves Lives
Because obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other serious conditions affect many in our neighborhoods, the medical staff makes it a priority to offer workshops and educate consumers about maintaining good health. The community outreach program distributes health information and offers screenings at health fairs, community meetings and other neighborhood gatherings. Better patient care is the result of our focus on education.
