Message from the Chairman
At Maimonides Medical Center, we have served the residents of Brooklyn for more than a century, and in the process transformed the hospital into a vital hub for healthcare services in New York City.
When Maimonides was founded as a modest Dispensary in 1911, its mandate was clear: provide the finest care to residents of southern Brooklyn. And while the way in which we deliver healthcare has changed and expanded over the years, our dedication to excellence has never wavered.
After I was named Chairman of the Board of Trustees in May 2014, I was pleased to discover a number of people eager to share their “Maimonides connections.” One person after another told me, “I was born at your hospital,” or “My mom is doing great, thanks to your doctors and nurses,” or “We are so grateful that our son is fully recovered.” It’s this type of personal connection that helps make Maimonides a special place for patients and families.
I invite you to spend some time on our website to learn more about our history, our renowned medical staff, and our nationally-ranked patient outcomes in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia. Our video gallery features many examples of “a day in the life” experiences at Maimonides, as well as interviews with some of our doctors, nurses and staff.
As we often tell Brooklyn residents, “You don’t need to cross a bridge to find outstanding healthcare.” That’s because Maimonides truly delivers the right care, right here.

Message from the President
It is a great privilege to lead Maimonides Medical Center. I am confident that the more you know about this wonderful organization, the more you will want us to be your hospital—whether as a patient, volunteer, donor or community supporter. That’s why we published this report.
Maimonides is Brooklyn’s premier academic medical center and teaching hospital. We pioneer medical breakthroughs, boast state-of-the-art clinical and information technology, train more medical residents than anyone else in Brooklyn and regularly win awards from independent evaluators for the quality of our care. We are humane, compassionate and patient-centered.
Maimonides offers a full range of inpatient and ambulatory services. We especially serve people at the beginning and end of life and during medical emergencies. Our physicians and midwives deliver more babies than any other hospital in New York State. One quarter of our patients are 75-years or older—and tend to be much sicker than those hospitalized elsewhere. We provide patients admitted through the ER with the most advanced critical care. Our long-standing tradition of excellence continues in the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Center.
We always reach for new levels of excellence, and important strides have been made. We created a highly regarded Jaffe Stroke Center. The Maimonides Cancer Center has gone from a dream to offering the finest and most advanced diagnosis and treatment. In cancer, stroke, cardiac and other specialties, we have recruited stellar physicians from top-tier academic medical centers.
The nearly 7,000 physicians, nurses and other staff at Maimonides Medical Center are committed to patients, their families and the communities we serve.
