Brooklyn, New York --- In celebration of National Nurses Week, Maimonides Medical Center extended "Honorary Nurse" privileges to several prominent elected officials and community leaders. Each was provided with a custom-made nursing uniform and, after attending a brief orientation, assumed her/his new nursing responsibilities. Accompanied by a Maimonides Registered Nurse, each Honorary Nurse proceeded to various units.

The patient rounds were designed to give a realistic glimpse into the day-to-day duties of Registered Nurses at Maimonides. The Honorary Nurses were able to observe how Maimonides nurses care for their patients, as well as interact with a few themselves.
After completion of the rounds, a brief ceremony was held in the Board Room at which each Honorary Nurse was presented with a "graduation" certificate from Maimonides President & CEO Pamela Brier and Chief Nursing Officer Thomas Smith.
