The Office of Academic Affairs is the central administrative office that coordinates all graduate medical education (GME) activities for the 24 residency programs, as well as all medical student clerkships at Maimonides Medical Center. The primary mission of the office is to ensure that all programs maintain a high standard of education and full accreditation by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or, for our osteopathic programs, by the American Osteopathic Association. Additionally, we ensure that GME is appropriately supported by the medical center in terms of funding, staffing, equipment and teaching facilities. The office also oversees all Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities.

Our office responsibilities include:

• GME institutional policy and governance
• Medical school and teaching hospital affiliations
• Residency program accreditation reviews
• Compliance with state and ACGME regulations regarding resident duty hours
• JCAHO requirements
• Program development
• Assistance with program recruitment
• Medical student electives
• Faculty and resident development and resident employment functions
• Annual new house staff orientation program in June
• Approving applications for CME and maintaining CME provider accreditatation with the NYS Medical Society
