Research & Useful Information
Clinical research is emphasized and residents are strongly encouraged throughout their residency to take an active role in the departmental clinical research projects. An average of four research projects are conducted at all times, providing residents the opportunity to work on projects of their choice. When studies are completed the residents get to present them at national or local conferences.
Beginning in September the Departmental Research meeting will be held every other month to discuss the progress of the on-going projects and new initiatives. During this meeting residents who are interested in becoming involved in clinical research opportunities can present their novel ideas. A staff member will assist the resident in presenting the project for IRB approval. The research team consists of Dr. Peter Homel, a research assistant, and volunteers to assist with the research project in data collection, patient follow-up, etc.
Residents also have an opportunity to present and discuss research articles every week during the morning conference dedicated to research discussions.
