At Maimonides, our inpatient rehabilitation service is hospital-based and provides acute rehab care across specializations. Our approach to evaluation, service, treatment and education reflects the hospital’s overall specialization in heart, stroke, orthopedics (especially joint replacement and lower back pain), surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, cancer, geriatrics and pediatrics.

Rehabilitation Medicine provides a multi-disciplinary approach which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech/language therapy. While service is often initiated by the patient’s main physician, all health care providers initially evaluate the patient and assist in the development of a treatment and care plan. Most of the evaluation and treatment occurs post-operatively, on a daily basis during the patient’s hospitalization. Overall goals of rehab therapy are provided to assist the patient in becoming self-sufficient in as timely a period as possible.
